Australian Standard AS 2210.3:2019 covers the specific requirements for safety footwear, providing guidelines for design, performance, testing, and marking to ensure that footwear offers adequate protection for workers in or nearby hazardous environments. This standard is aligned with international standards (particularly ISO 20345) and is relevant across various industries, including construction, manufacturing, mining, and other sectors where protective footwear is necessary.

Australian Standards require that the toe cap is able to withstand an impact force of 200 joules and a compression of 15 kilonewtons. This is roughly equivalent to a 20-kilogram weight dropped from a height of 1 meter and a compressive load of 1.5 tonnes. The toe cap may be steel or another composite material, provided that it can meet these performance standards.
